The Crans Montana Forum, established in 1986, is a Swiss-based non-governmental international organization committed to fostering a more humane world by enhancing international cooperation.

Its mission centers on promoting good practices and facilitating ongoing dialogue between public and private sector leaders who are pivotal in shaping the future.

The Forum convenes multiple high-level events annually, attracting decision-makers from approximately 100 countries. These gatherings provide a private and informal setting to deliberate on contemporary political, social, economic, and security challenges.

The Crans Montana Forum's dedication to facilitating dialogue between African and European diplomats underscores its role in shaping the discourse on investment migration.

By providing a platform for such discussions, the Forum contributes to the development and refinement of programs that align with the aspirations of global investors and the economic objectives of participating nations.

The 36th Annual Session of the Crans Montana Forum convened in Brussels from June 26 to 29, 2024, under the central theme "Facing Multiple Crises: The World in Search of Its Future." This significant gathering brought together high-profile leaders and decision-makers from across the globe to address pressing international challenges

  • African Sovereignty and Non-Alignment: Discussions emphasized Africa's move towards genuine political sovereignty and non-alignment, marking a departure from post-colonial policies.

  • BRICS+ Expansion: The enlargement of the BRICS+ group, including major energy suppliers like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, was explored for its potential to reshape global geopolitics.\

  • Maritime Industry Integration: The forum highlighted Africa's integration into the global maritime industry, focusing on initiatives like the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the development of "Smart Ports" to boost sustainable growth.

  • Digital Transition: The importance of digital transformation for development and global integration was underscored, with discussions on establishing effective internet governance and e-government strategies.

  • African Women's Forum: The role of women in democracy and social cohesion was a focal point, recognizing them as essential contributors to societal values and future progress.

Notable Attendees in CMF Brussels :

  • Abdulhamid Dbeibeh: The Prime Minister of Libya led a national delegation, engaging in discussions on Libya's role in regional stability and development.

  • Babajide Sanwo-Olu: The Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria, participated actively, reflecting on urban development and investment opportunities in Lagos.

  • Namibian Delegation: Namibia's representation at the forum underscored the country's commitment to international cooperation and investment.

The forum served as a pivotal platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration among global leaders, addressing critical issues, and exploring pathways to a more sustainable and equitable future.

In recent years, the Forum has been attempting to address topics pertinent to investment migration and the evolving landscape of global residency and citizenship programs.

CMF engages notably with economic cooperations with diverse themes and investment migration, evaluating global residency and citizenship-by-investment programs which are emerging in African continent.

Recent global forums have an intention to highlighting African initiatives such as 'Dual Citizenships of African countries' and 'Residence and Citizenship Programs by Investment'.

Namibia’s Golden Visa program, designed to attract international investors through residency by real estate investment, and Mauritius’s luxury property-based residency schemes.

Notably, Namibia has introduced a residence-by-investment program aimed at attracting high-net-worth individuals and retirees. This initiative requires a minimum real estate investment of USD 365,000 in designated developments, granting investors a five-year renewable residence permit, with eligibility for permanent residency after seven years.

Conversely, South Africa does not currently offer a formal golden visa or citizenship-by-investment program. However, it provides alternative pathways to permanent residency for financially independent individuals and business investors. The Financially Independent Permit requires applicants to demonstrate a net worth of ZAR 12 million (approximately USD 700,000), granting immediate permanent residency without mandatory investment in the country. Additionally, the Business Visa caters to those aiming to invest in or establish businesses within South Africa, subject to specific financial criteria.

Residency Options in Mauritius : Foreigners can purchase luxury properties under government-approved schemes such as the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS), and Smart City Scheme. With a minimum investment of US$ 375,000, buyers not only acquire a dream home but also the right to live in Mauritius. Mauritius is the perfect destination for retirees seeking tranquility. Those aged 50 and above can enjoy a peaceful retirement by transferring US$ 1,500 per month or US$ 18,000 annually into a local bank account, securing a renewable 10-year residence permit.
